ABOUT BICYCLES
WHAT'S THE BEST THING ABOUT OWNING AN ELECTRIC BIKE?
You can go much, much further and see much more with the help of the battery than on an ordinary pedal bike. Pass all the slow people on the road, because you can gain a lot of speed with the electric bike.
You're not dependent on roads and won't get stuck in a traffic jam, but you can explore local cycle paths, parks and forests, and go anywhere a car or motorbike isn't allowed to go.
You'll be able to see a lot more of the countryside, explore more places, go to remote locations and come back without being completely exhausted from pedalling all day. If that's not your aim, then feel free to switch off the PAS (pedal assist system) and work up a sweat!
Feeling tired? Feeling lazy and sluggish, but still feel like taking a ride to get some fresh air? No problem, just switch on your engine and hit the gas, without pedalling at all!
Perhaps you want to do some shopping, but think they're too heavy to carry by hand? No problem! Here's your chance to put that powerful motor to good use! Simply attach your shopping to the rear rack and you'll be on your way home in no time.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PEDAL-ASSIST (WITH CADENCE SENSOR) AND THROTTLE-ASSIST ELECTRIC BIKES?
Pedal-assist e-bikes are designed to activate the motor only when the rider is pedalling. Acceleration-assist e-bikes, on the other hand, are capable of generating full power on demand, to give you a boost up a hill or across a junction safely. Ideally, you'd want your electric bike to be equipped to do both, which is the case with all our models.
CAN THE GREASER BE USED LIKE A NORMAL BIKE IF THE BATTERY IS FLAT?
YES!!! ALL Michael Blast electric bikes are equipped with a high-quality Shimano™ 7-speed gearing system, so even if the battery were to run down, you could still ride like you would on a normal bike.
WHAT'S BEST FOR ME - A HUB MOTOR OR AN INTERMEDIATE DRIVE MOTOR?
For the vast majority of cyclists, a hub motor is the obvious choice, as it generates more torque, requires no maintenance and is the most affordable option compared to a mid-drive motor. Mid-drive motors are better suited to riding on technically advanced terrain, where weight distribution becomes more important.
HOW FAST CAN MICHAEL BLAST ELECTRIC BIKES GO?
The maximum speed of Michael Blast bikes is 25km/h. This of course depends on riding conditions such as rider weight, terrain, weather, wind, etc. Michael Blast electric bicycles are factory-set to a maximum speed of 25km/h in order to comply with EN15194 certification.
WHAT IS THE WEIGHT CAPACITY OF YOUR ELECTRIC BIKES?
The weight capacity of all our models is around 120kg.
HOW FAR CAN MICHAEL BLAST ELECTRIC BIKES TRAVEL BEFORE NEEDING TO BE RECHARGED?
This depends entirely on the road, the weather and the battery charge level. The cyclist's physical condition must also be taken into account. You can cover up to 90-120 km on a full charge, and the more you pedal, the longer the battery life.
DO I HAVE TO PEDAL TO MOVE THE BIKE?
In pedalling assistance mode, the motor automatically provides assistance proportional to the rider's pedalling effort. The harder the rider pedals, the greater the assistance provided by the system. In accelerator mode, the rider can propel the bike without having to pedal.
DOES THE BATTERY CHARGE WHILE I'M PEDALLING?
Pedalling saves the battery, but doesn't really recharge it. The battery only recharges when plugged into the mains.
ARE BICYCLES ALLOWED ON BOARD AN AIRCRAFT?
Air transport regulations currently prohibit the carriage of all e-bikes on commercial aircraft, as lithium-ion batteries are classified as 'dangerous goods'. That said, all the major courier delivery services, including FedEx, UPS and DHL, are able to ship e-bikes.
ARE MICHAEL BLAST E-BIKES LEGAL FOR USE ON EUROPEAN ROADS, SHARED PATHS AND CYCLE TRACKS?
YES! The MICHAEL BLAST E-BIKES complies with standard EN15194 as a PEDELEC and is therefore 100% legal for use in the EU.
Wherever you can legally cycle, the Michael Blast e-bike can also be used, as long as you comply with the rules, laws and regulations of your state, province or territory. (Please check before riding).
HOW DO YOU RECHARGE THE BATTERY ON THE MICHAEL BLAST E-BIKE AND HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Michael Blast e-bikes are supplied with their own electric chargers, which plug into any household socket and then connect to the charging port on your Michael Blast e-bike, located under the battery reservoir. It takes around 4 hours to fully charge the battery of a GREASER, for example.

ASSEMBLY AND MAINTENANCE
WHERE CAN I FIND MY BIKE'S SERIAL NUMBER?
The serial number is located on the bottom bracket or head tube.
ONCE I'VE RECEIVED MY BIKE, HOW MANY ASSEMBLY STEPS ARE REQUIRED?
The assembly required is minimal. Greaser, Outsider and Vacay require installation of the handlebars and pedals. Vacay also requires installation of the front wheel and front mudguard.
WHAT LEVEL OF MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED?
Apart from the need to keep the battery charged, maintenance of a Michael Blast e-bike is the same as for any other bike.
After 100 miles, a basic tune-up is required, which is the standard procedure for all new bikes once they have been broken in. Otherwise, the simplest and most important thing to do is to check the tyre pressure regularly and keep them correctly inflated, as indicated on the tyre.
If you ride in the wet, make sure the drivetrain is clean and well lubricated. Minor adjustments or repairs due to general wear and tear will occur from time to time, and can be carried out at any local bike shop.
If you don't use your bike in winter or for any other prolonged period, the battery must be recharged once a month to remain functional, otherwise it will die.
ARE THERE FAST CHARGERS FOR BATTERIES?
No, rapid charging is harmful to the chemical structure of the battery cells and will reduce the battery's lifespan.
HOW LONG BEFORE I NEED TO REPLACE THE BATTERIES?
You can expect your battery to last between two and four years, depending on how it is used. Lithium batteries tend to lose capacity over time and need replacing after around 500 charge cycles! This equates to around 25,000 km of total travel per battery. Provided you take good care of them!
This means don't overcharge or discharge them, NEVER use a battery charger other than the one supplied with the Michael Blast e-bike and NEVER discharge your battery beyond the automatic cut-off level.
CAN THE GREASER BE USED IN THE RAIN?
The GREASER is water resistant, which means that if you ride in a small puddle or light rain, the GREASER should not pose a problem. However, you should avoid riding in heavy rain if possible. Although the motor and battery are IP65 rated, water damage is never covered by our warranty.
If we say:
- Yes, it's 100% waterproof. There will always be one person who decides,
- "Yes, waterproofing should mean I can go river jumping, put it on YouTube and it will be fun to drive again."
- "Wrong."
Treat your bike with the right care and it will last you a long time.
